This notice explains what personal information maklada.co.za collects, why, how long we keep it, and your rights under the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).

Who is responsible

What we collect, and why

  • Requests you send (the form, the X-ray "Rebuild it free" flow or the assistant's request card): your name, email and/or phone number, business name, website address, the package and add-ons you ticked, your message and your X-ray score. We use these only to reply to your request, prepare a preview or a quote, and keep a record of your consent.
  • Website X-ray: the web address you type is fetched once to produce the report. We don't store the address or the result. A share link contains only the scores, never the address.
  • AI assistant: your messages are sent to our AI provider to produce an answer and are not stored by us. Don't type sensitive information into the chat.
  • Preferences: your language, light/dark theme, Lite mode and sound choice are kept in your own browser (local storage), not on our servers.
  • We use no tracking cookies and no analytics. If that ever changes, we'll ask first with a cookie banner.

Consent and direct marketing

We only contact you about the request you sent. The X-ray flow asks for your explicit permission ("You may contact me about this website"). We never add you to a mailing list without asking, and you can say stop at any time.

Who else sees it (operators)

  • Cloudflare (website hosting and serverless functions).
  • Resend (delivering request emails to us).
  • Our AI provider (Anthropic by default) for assistant answers. Some of these providers process information outside South Africa; we only use providers bound by data-protection terms with adequate safeguards, as section 72 of POPIA requires.
  • We never sell personal information.

How long we keep it

Requests are kept for as long as we need them to reply, quote and deliver your website, then for the period the law requires for business records. Retention period: 12 months.

Security

The website runs over HTTPS only, the request and X-ray functions are rate-limited, and only Maklada can read the request emails. If a security compromise ever affects your information, we'll tell you and the Information Regulator as POPIA requires.

Your rights

  • Ask what personal information we hold about you, and get a copy.
  • Ask us to correct or delete it.
  • Object to processing, and withdraw your consent at any time.
  • Complain to the Information Regulator: inforegulator.org.za, enquiries@inforegulator.org.za.
